Pipes is a collection of instruments derived from a variety of cardboard tubes, aluminum spray cans, dreamcatchers, and PVC pipes. Even if the pitch of most of the sources is not stable, all instruments were manually tuned. Each instrument features from 3 to 6 Round Robin samples and up to 3 velocity layers. One of the main instruments is a sampled Wah Wah Tube (aka Vibratone): bell-like sound with a very long release and a dedicated control for overtones. There are a couple of sound designed patches derived from the original instruments along with Kontakt Multis ready to play.
Halloween Pumpkins features samples and unusual sound design experiments with traditional Halloween pumpkins. You will find spooky bowed textures, creepy hits, plucked rubber bands, a fake transistor organ and of course an experimental impulse response of the inside of a large pumpkin. The pumpkins were sampled with two mics, a large diaphragm condenser mic and a piezo attached directly to the skin, then mixed to match the perfect eerie sound.
Toy Marimba features a small tuned percussion instrument made of rosewood and rope. This handmade toy instrument was found in a distressed state and some work was required to restore its original functionality. It was sampled with wood and bamboo mallets, with 3 Round Robin repetitions and 3 velocity layers for the main hits. Slides and glissandos (up/down with 3 speeds) are also included along with slowed down samples crafted for wooden and airy textures.
Why use sticks when you can use ping pong balls?
Pong Glockenspiel is a VST/AU sample-based plugin made by recording a toy glockenspiel played with ping pong balls. Two velocity layers (hard and soft) are cross faded to have a smooth transition while the 3 round robin (repetitions samples) avoid the “machine gun” effect of sampled instruments. There are also included two ambient instruments, two synth pad instruments and two slowed down instruments crafted using the original samples.
The Organetta is a small portable reed organ made in the late 50s by the German company Hohner. The sound is generated by an electric fan that blows air into a set of brass reeds hence the sound is reminiscent of something in between a melodica and an accordion.
We sampled this little green friend with two mics: a large diaphragm condenser mic and a piezo attached to the chassis. The fan noise has been removed from the samples but you can choose to add it to the mix or play it alone by pressing the green keys. To add more realism we captured 6 round robin of the key down and up noises.
Found in a flea market, buried inside a box full of dust and cutlery, this balloon wine Glass has a bright and crystalline tone and long sustain. Hits were sampled with fingers, a piano hammer, a metal stick, and palm of the hand. Additional sounds produced with wet fingers on the border, small screws thrown inside the goblet, and processed slowed down hits for the atmospheric pads.
Soundscapes, textures and ambiences ready to use as VST/AU plug-in. These sounds are divided in two main categories: concrete and gear. The raw concrete samples were recorded in different places across Europe (Paris, Dublin, London and Naples) using studio or handy equipment. The raw gear samples were recorded from hardware synthesizers like a Custom Eurorack Modular Synth, guitar pedals and noisy toys like the Thingamagoop 2.
As the name suggests, Bells is a collection of samples derived from many different kinds of bells. After visiting Pontificia Fonderia Marinelli in Agnone, Italy – the largest bells company and one of the oldest family-owned businesses worldwide – we started collecting many different kinds of bells, including: an Agnone souvenir bell, three different cowbells, a hotel desk-bell, a Perko fog bell, and a classic school bell. All the bells are made from different materials such as bronze, brass, and iron, and we sampled them with different articulations and techniques to provide a wide range of sounds.
